New magnetic North site by Brendan Dawes

The ever creative Brendan Dawes and magnetic north release their new flash site that ones again pushes the envelope. The site feature an innovative user interface in which the user draws shapes to navigate. Although in one form or another the similar attempts have been made before this one works like a charm, the drawing part at least. On the down side you are not able to see specific type of work but then again that may be the goal, getting a user that looks for something specific to see (or sell) even more things.
Over all its a great piece of work shows that the abilities of flash are even greater and that for people that are truly creative there are still things to be discovered

O.S.A. has a new site from de-construct

De-construct is alive and they have a new holding page (the full site is still under construction) and a new star site for O.S.A. architects. The site is following the trend of the day of full screen image display with no fixed width with alternate navigation system that puts the usability second in line but manages to be equally usable. Good typography is always a given with de-construct and as for the small details i love the loading animation. The site is only in German but other than that it is a top notch work.

Hello Monday has a new site

I am surprised (and a bit ashamed) I never heard of these guys.
Hello Monday's work, both print and web, is exceptional. I especially like the the Leoni corporate id. The site it self is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Clean, effective with an added twist for the drag/scrolling navigation to make memorable but without sacrificing usability. To present the work they don't cut any corners giving us a wealth of images from drawing (and we are talking for actual hand drawing again for Leoni) to end product.

the dolphins are online

after the release of the new digit site and the closer to our home town last year release of of the now multi-awarded beetroor website, adding to the ever growing list of the minimalistic full screen portfolio site comes the new dolphins website with the added twist of the other big trend of papaervision 3d. To many it might look like a rip-off, of not one but many sites, but to be honest if the brief is to maximize the exposure of your work and minimize all the rest there is not much room left. Personally I think it is a minimalistic approach that I understand and to certain extend I agree with but in many cases, this one not being an exception, I find a inconsistency of the design approach of the site with the design approach of their work. Having said that I have to say that their work is quite stunning and I wish all the best for the future.

new site for digit london

the new site for human interaction design studio Digit London is online. Its minimal and with the current trend of full screen video (although the stop motion, short of, animation is a good touch). I like the use of the back background pattern and the clear and unsubmenued menu. The project section is a bit poor (come on people 12 projects is all you got) to the point that someone will think it's a bit elitist. Make sure you check out the contact map, the satellite version (a dream of green all around).

The Designers Republic is no more

This is a sad day. As far as i know this is the first victim of the global financial crisis and unfortunately is a (personally) very influential firm. So as from January 23, 2009 the Designers Republic call it quits.
Dark times. There is a lot of optimism there though.

design walk 2008

The 2008 design walk (the second year in the installment) has come and gone. This year the focus (in my eyes at least) was more on projects for the events rather than presenting the offices (and in some cases last year the work) of the teams. I am not sure if it should be just the one or the other. I think a blend of both would be ideal especially if the studio projects were supported by some work in progress. The you would be a useful thing for everyone. Students and young creatives would learn, clients would get accustomed with the process and professional would be able to discuss and collaborate.
Overall a good event bringing attention to the Greek design scenes that needs it. Kudos to the organizers

this is wicked! I don't know how long has this been out there but it's really good. Create a color pallete in multiple ways and in an array of combinations and then use it for your web design project (or even export it for a variety of programs including photoshop an illustrator)

radiohead - in rainbows

I am sure it is all over the place but i just had to mention it. Radiohead are releasing their new album and that alone should be enough for a mention, but they went on and bypassed everyone (iTunes included) and they are distributing their album online themselves. If you want to buy the vinyl or cd with the full artwork it is a bit pricey (but probably worth it). As for the download the price is weird... at best... they say "it's up to you"
